Thousand Island Lakes – July 2015

Thousand Island Lake is a beautiful alpine lake at the base of Banner Peak in the Ansel Adams Wilderness near Mammoth Lakes, CA. We embarked on a short trek via the High Trail out of Agnew Meadows (PCT) and back along the middle fork of the San Joaquin River.

We departed from Agnew Meadows, near Mammoth Lakes, catching some fairly impressive views on the PCT. Hurricane Dolores kept things gray but mostly dry:

The views of Banner Peak were fantastic. The haze made the mountains appear quite foreboding thanks to Hurricane Dolores:

The sky did come out on our second day:

Not only were the landscapes phenomenal, but we also enjoyed some wildflowers due to the recent storms:

And, of course, the marmots and other wildlife are always a nice addition:
